The perfect low carb barbecue is all about the meat, and while we all love a good old sausage or burger, we love trying new things. Barbecued steak, pork chops, and big fat prawns are all amazing!
For extra fat, our favourite is chicken thighs with the skin on - rub a little oil on and it’ll go super crispy!
Alongside all of your delicious meat, you’re going to want some veggies. We love a green salad made of crispy lettuce leaves, cucumber, avocado, spring onions, asparagus and fresh herbs. Add some oil, lemon juice and a little lemon zest and it’s the perfect summer side salad. We also love chucking some veggies on the barbecue too. Flat mushrooms or chunky slices of pepper are great grilled alongside your meat. Serve them as a side or add them to a burger. Even better, slice some baby courgettes in half lengthways, grill them and dunk them in garlic mayo - they’re so good!
No barbecue is complete without some awesome sauces and marinades. Ketchup can be quite high carb, so we like to keep it to a minimum, but there are all kind of other delicious sauces to try instead. Mustard and Mayo are both good options (just check the jar though as some can sneak in extra sugar). Oils, herbs and spices work well as both a salad dressing and a marinade for your meat. We love adding some variety to our barbecue though with salsa, guacamole, pesto or chimichurri sauces. Use them as a marinade on the barbecue, or add them after to a burger or hot dog for an amazing flavour hit.

Over on our social channels @seriouslylowcarb, we asked if we should print some branded aprons, and it was a big fat YES from our low carb legends. So we did it!! Some cheeky aprons, just in time for BBQ season. Here's one of our founders Jo modelling it, doesn't she look fab?
